Samsung shipped the world's first 3D-capable portable Blu-ray player and 65-inch 3D LED TV.


Wednesday Samsung Electronics America unleashed  the "world's first" portable Blu-ray player with 3D capability: the Samsung BD-C8000. Although the device features a 10.1-inch screen, 3D playback is only possible by piping in the content to a 3D-capable TV and viewing the media with nerdy 3D glasses. Still, Blu-ray movies on-the-go--even without 3D functionality--is a great way to keep rambunctious kids at bay on long trips (for an hour or so at least).

Aiptek has added another pocket camcorder to its range with the launch of the Aiptek 3D, as the names suggests the Aiptek 3D is capable of shooting HD video in 3D.

3DTV Shipments to Top 3.4M Units This Year, Despite Challenges

Worldwide shipments of 3D-compatible television sets is expected to reach 3.4 million units this year, and nearly 43 million units by 2014, despite a dearth of 3D content (broadcast and packaged media) and confusion regarding 3D glasses, according to a new report.

DisplaySearch, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based research firm, said 3DTV shipments in the United States are expected to reach 2 million units this year, with market penetration expected to grow from a 5% share of total flat-panel TVs this year to 37% in 2014.
